Kindergarten is filled with fun events, special days, and field trips. Here you will see some of the special events the kindergartners look forward to during year.
Firehouse Visit
Fire safety month is celebrated with a fun trip to Firehouse 69. We learn so much about how to stay safe and how to prevent fires. We all know how to call 911 and how to stop, drop, and roll. It is very important to remember that firefighters are here to help, you should never hide from them.
Halloween Parade
Each year the early childhood classrooms wear their costumes to school. Everyone loves dressing up and the older students enjoy seeing the fun costumes. Many teachers in the upper grades give out candy as we parade through the school. In the afternoon there are always a few crafts and treats to enjoy.
Bugs Alive!
In 2014 and 2016 we visited the Nature Museum to help us learn about bugs. What a great learning experience and a fun day! Everyone at the Nature Museum was super friendly and helpful. In the picture below we are acting out a poem all about bugs. After we read the poem and learned a little about bugs we were able to observe and even hold a few bugs.
Thanksgiving Feast
To celebrate the Thanksgiving season the Kindergartners get together with Prek3 and Prek4. We will dress up as Native Americans and Pilgrims while sharing food with one another.
A Day on the Polar Express
To celebrate the Christmas season we have a fun filled day on the "Polar Express." Our classroom is transformed into a magical train filled with fun learning activities on every "car." This year we will celebrate Polar Express Day on December 21st.
Shedd Aquarium
We will be learning all about the ocean in the spring. We will learn about the different ocean animals, zones, currents, and many more fun things. At the end of our unit we will take a trip to the Shedd Aquarium!! We can't wait!
Bodyology
In Spring 2015 we were excited to visit the Copernicus Center to see Bodyology. Everyone loved Slim Goodbody. Slim taught us about how the body works and how to keep our body healthy- eat nutritious food and exercise.
End of the Year Camp Out
Instead of an End of the Year party, we celebrate the end of kindergarten with a "camp out." The students bring sleeping bags and we tell stories and make s'mores. It is a fun day filled with lots of exciting activities. This year our campout will be June 1st, 2016.
